Devious Journal Entry

Dinas Lake, a wonderful discovery

this is one of my favorite images from Dinas. Not because its a great picture but because of the problems I had shooting it.
I really wanted some pictures of Dragonflies on the wing and particulalry them mating on the wing; but Dragonflies are very fast and don't like to be aproached so it isn't easy.
I ended up using a 200mm lens, with a extension tube and a 2X converter plus flash to get this picture. Canon say that you shouldn't use an extension tube and a convertor, but you can!
I was stumbling about in mud and pond water trying to hold this lot on a monopod whilst focusing (no auto focus here!). I spent an enjoyable couple of hours at this, grateful that this lake is deserted for most of the time otherwise there could have been calls for the men in the white coats to come and pick me up.....
